Live Argentina v Mexico
Final: Argentina 2, Mexico 0
90 minutes: Six minutes of added time.
88 Minutes: Goal! Argentina! What a goal from Enzo Fernandez, who fired the ball from the left into the top right corner. Goals were difficult for Mexico, not only in this game but also in terms of goal difference.
min 81: No clear idea for Mexico. And Argentina were dangerous when they won the ball in midfield. Julián Alvarez and Leo Messi started running a few minutes ago after Exequiel Palacios won the ball.
min 73: Mexico. Er. Mexico removed Chucky Lozano. Piojo Alvarado was there. There will be questions about this solution if it doesn’t work.
69th minute: Sub Argentina. Angeli Di Maria and Alexis McAllister were eliminated and Exequiel Palacios and Christian Romero came on to maintain the advantage.
65 minute: Goal! Messi did it Argentina 1 Maxico 0 – It was an easy pass from a central position outside the box and nothing got the job done and he fired in a left-footed shot that tripped Memo Ochoa at the right post.
57th minute: Sub Argentina. Enzo Fernandez replaces Guido Rodriguez. Argentina needs the creativity of Benfica players.
56 min: Argentina hit a good shot early in the half. The urgency increased with the Albiceleste attack. But Lionel Messi just sent the bait and went straight into the goal.
50 minutes: Yellow card. Eric Gutierrez from Mexico got it for bringing down Lionel Messi just outside the penalty box. Messi took the free kick and it was high. One can only wonder if the ankle injury from the game against UAE will bother him.
Halftime: Mexico 0, Argentina 0
45 minutes: Italian referee Daniele Orsato gives five minutes of added time.
45 min: The Mexican Opportunity! Alexis Vega takes a free kick after Montiel is fouled. And Argentina goalkeeper Dibu Martinez knew what was coming and took it out of thin air in front of his net.
43 min: Yellow card. Gonzalo Montiel from Argentina only got it for hacking Eric Gutierrez. Apparently yellow.
Minute 41: SUB Mexico. Andres Guardado had to go and hand Memo Ochoa the captain’s armband. He previously came to the bench with a calf problem. Enter PSV Eindhoven’s Erik Gutierrez.
Minute 40: Argentina have a chance! Angel Di Maria’s cross from the right and Lautaro Martinez’s header in the middle of the box but missed the mark and the ball bounced over the bar.
39 min: The good thing for the Argentinian fans is that Rodrigo De Paul is not playing well in these very tense conditions. And he just took the ball out of his own game. He’s out of the game.
min 38: Example of how heavy each ball is. Look at Lisandro Martinez’s kick that just hit him in the face.
35 minutes: Chances for Argentina. Surprise surprise. This is in one sentence. But Mexican keeper Memo Ochoa took care of that. This is the next time Argentina has managed to trouble the Mexican keeper.
31 min: Apart from some set pieces from Mexico, we didn’t see much development from either side as both teams struggled in midfield. There are some strong fights. But very little built.
25 min: Mexico looks much better than Argentina so far. It’s as if Argentina realized how hard this was and Mexico was enjoying it. Not a single dangerous attack from Messi and Co.
22 min: Yellow card for Nestor Araujo of Mexico. It was a ruthless challenge from centre-back Marcos Acuna. Once again, Mexico was very aggressive from the start.
21 minutes: Standard situation for Mexico. Another one was won by Chucky Lozano. This decoration is cumbersome and ineffective. Dibu Martinez is out to get it. It’s easy for him.
12 min: Mexico is on! They came out intensely. They were strong in every challenge and Andres Guardado went all-in with a shot at Rodrigo De Paul on the touchline. It’s already that hot.
10 min: The Mexican Opportunity! A fantastic set piece from Luis Chavez and the ball rolled towards the far post where a sliding Hector Moreno almost made contact but failed to reach it.
9 min: First corner for Mexico, and hits badly. It will be sent to Messi! Mexico now operates in half of Argentina.
Minute 5: The Mexican players were furious after Alexis Vega received a yellow card for a foul because Mexico made a quick substitution. But Vega sent a high punch to Gonzalo Montiel’s face to protect the ball. There was a long pause here while the medics tended to the Argentinian right-back.
4th minute: Kick-off for Argentina. Lionel Messi returned to midfield to take possession of the ball at one point.
1 min: We’re off. Mexico and Argentina in their traditional colors.
