How big is the surprise? Argentina started Qatar 2022 as second favorite to lift the trophy to Brazil. The first two Asian teams to enter this competition were also clear losers, with Ecuador beating the hosts and England beating IR Iran 6-2. And with Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez and co leading 1-0 it seems more about how much they will win than the result.

What happened after that? One hit miracle? What happened to the character? Only time will tell. It starts on Saturday when Saudi Arabia meets Poland.

02. 2014 Italy 0-1 Costa Rica Brazil

The win sent Costa Rica into the second round for the first time since 1990 and meant Group D rivals England were knocked out. Italy still has a lot to do. They should get at least a draw in their last game against Uruguay.

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said it would take a much better performance from the Azzurri to equalize against Uruguay on June 24.

Costa Rica is considered the underdog in the rankings in a group that includes three former world champions. Contrary to expectations, the Costa Rican team started by beating Uruguay in the first game and then showed that it was no fluke by beating Italy in the second.
